Differences between Views & Lists
Last updated: May 5, 2026
Views and Lists are two different ways of organizing participants within a population in Rally, and can improve the speed and quality of study recruitment. Views update dynamically using set filters, whereas lists are updated manually or by new form signups.
Both Views and Lists can be used to filter and search for participants, such as to add to or search within a study or population.
Creating and managing views requires the "Create and modify population views" permission. Creating and managing lists requires the "Create and modify population lists" permission. This includes the Rally default roles Admin, Ops Manager, or Researcher.
What are the differences between Views & Lists?
Views are dynamic groups of people created from saved filters or criteria, like specific properties, engagement history, or demographics. They automatically update as participant data changes. You can also leverage daily automatic data syncs from Salesforce or Snowflake to keep segments fresh.
View examples: "Active Customers within Last 30 Days" or "North America Customers"
Lists are static groups of people. They're typically created for specific purposes and don't automatically update, except when people that submit a signup form are added to the associated population's dedicated list.
List examples: "2024 Conference Attendees" or "Research Program Panel"
Where can I find Views and Lists for my populations?
Navigate to People via the navigation sidebar and select a population, then select the Views or Lists dropdowns from above the people table to see the list of views or lists associated with that population.
Admins can also view all workspace views and lists from within the All people database.
