Role Types

Rally currently offers five types of roles to assign to users, granting them specific permissions within the platform. Safely and confidently manage your research efforts by carefully reviewing the role types and associated permissions to ensure each new user you add has the appropriate access level. The role type selected determines whether it is a Paid or Free Seat.

Paid Seats

  • Ops Managers

  • Researchers

  • Super Admin (additional permission set)

Free Seats

  • Observers

  • Developers

Ops Managers

Ops Managers are the equivalent of a typical Admin role. They are paid seats that can create Studies and Panels, add People to Rally, and perform all read and write permissions, including modifying some advanced Workspace settings.

βœ… Ops Managers do have access to modify the following Workspace configuration settings:

  • Account

  • Branding

  • Domains

  • Properties

  • Documents

  • Consent Forms

  • Email Templates

  • Question Templates

🚫 Ops Managers do not have access to modify the following Workspace configuration settings:

  • Users & Roles

  • Billing

  • Incentive Budgets

Researchers

Researchers are anyone planning to conduct and manage studies. They are paid seats that can create Studies and Panels, and add People to Rally. Researchers have some read and write permissions, but can't edit advanced Workspace settings.

  • Properties

Observers

The Observer role is great for any stakeholder who wants to stay engaged in research activities without actively managing studies or Workspace settings within Rally. Observers are free seats that have read-only permissions in Rally.

βœ… Observers do have access in Rally to:

  • Sync their calendars and share their general availability to be included in interview scheduling

  • View components of a study within the study builder

  • View study overviews, including participant responses to screeners and surveys, and upcoming interviews

  • View participants and their profiles throughout studies and panels

Developers

The Developer role is great for your IT team or any other stakeholder that needs to configure settings in Rally. Developers are free seats that have read permissions and limited write permissions in Rally.

βœ… Developers do have access in Rally to:

  • Configure Connected Apps, including Snowflake, Salesforce, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, Typeform, and UserTesting

  • Connect domain names to Rally

  • Access Rally API token

Super Admin

Super Admin is an additional permission set that can be added to any user role. Super Admins can perform all read and write permissions, including all Workspace settings. Super Admins can also access and modify studies that they do not own.

βœ… Super Admins do have access to modify all Workspace configuration settings:

  • Account

  • Users & Roles

  • Connected Apps

  • Properties

  • Email Templates

  • Question Templates

  • Documents

  • Consent Forms
