[Early Access] Getting started with the Rally Agent
Last updated: June 11, 2026
Early Access - Updated Regularly: This feature is actively evolving, and so is this article. We'll continue updating it throughout Early Access as new functionality is added and things change. Check back often for the latest.
The Rally Agent helps you run interview studies from start to finish. This includes answering questions about ongoing research, setting up studies, driving recruitment, handling incentives, and closing studies when targets are met.
Everything the Rally Agent can see or do stays inside your workspace and follows the same access the Rally user utilizing the agent already has.
Every action the Rally Agent takes is surfaced for your approval before it runs.
Before getting started, we recommend reviewing our Setting up your workspace for the Rally Agent help center article to make sure your workspace is configured for success before using the Rally Agent.
How do I access the Rally Agent?
The agent is accessible from the Rally app, Slack, or any supported AI tool with MCP connectors. You can start a conversation from any of these entry points and pick it up from another at any time.
Rally App
To access the in-app, select your name/avatar in the bottom left of the navigation sidebar and click on Rally Agent.
Slack
In order to enable Slack with the Rally Agent, you first need to reconnect your Slack integration via the Settings > Connected accounts page in your Rally workspace.
Once added, simply message @Rally in any Slack channel to perform tasks such as approving decisions and getting study updates. If the Rally Agent hasn't been added to the Slack channel yet, you will be prompted to add it automatically.
What can the Rally Agent do?
Answer questions about your research
You can ask the agent plain-language questions about any study or participant in your workspace you have access to.
The Rally Agent can:
Tell you who's booked, confirmed, or completed within a study
Summarize where a study stands and whether it's on track to hit quota
Look up people in your workspace using criteria, driven by your property data
Surface what a participant said in their screener or observer room transcript
List studies by keyword or status (Ex: "Which studies are still in draft?")
Schedule, reschedule, or cancel interviews
What you want to do | Example prompt |
|---|---|
See upcoming interviews | "Who's booked this week?" |
Check past interviews | "Which interviews happened last week?" |
Check study progress | "Are we on track to hit quota?" |
Review a transcript | "What did Jim say about pricing?" |
Find a study | "Which studies are still in draft?" |
Get a study summary | "Tell me about the onboarding study." |
Find people in your workspace | "Find designers in SF who shop online weekly." |
Look up a participant | "Tell me about Jim Cooper." |
Schedule an interview | "Schedule an interview with Jim Cooper next Tuesday at 2PM." |
Reschedule an interview | "Reschedule Jim Cooper's interview to Thursday at 2PM." |
Cancel an interview | "Cancel tomorrow's interview with Jim Cooper." |
Set up and publish an interview study from a template
The Rally Agent can build a study using one of your organization's approved templates, screener included. The agent can only create studies from existing templates, it cannot create a study from scratch.
Just tell the agent who you'd like to talk through and it will walk you through the necessary steps until the study is published.
Specifically, it can:
Find people in Rally who match your criteria and create a study from one of your organization's approved templates with that audience
Update fields on a draft study (incentive, duration, participant target, etc.)
Add, refine, or remove screener questions
Publish the study once it's ready
The Rally Agent works in draft state until you approve the publish step; no study goes live without your sign-off.
What you want to do | Example prompt |
|---|---|
Start a study using your populations | "Find dog owners who shop online weekly and start a study." |
Start a study from a template | "Set up an onboarding interview study." |
Update study details | "Bump the incentive to $75 and change duration to 45 minutes." |
Add a screener question | "Add a screener question about company size." |
Remove a screener question | "Drop the age question." |
Publish the study | "Publish the onboarding study." |
Drive recruitment
Once a study is live, the agent monitors the participant pipeline and prepares outreach. It sequences invitations and surfaces each send for your approval before anything goes out.
The Rally Agent can:
Prepare and send recruitment email campaigns to your audience
Surface pending recruitment decisions when chatting with the agent in-app, in Slack, or receive notifications in your workspace for you to review and approve
What you want to do | Example prompt |
|---|---|
Start outreach | "Start reaching out to the audience." |
Approve a recruitment decision | "Approve the recruitment proposal for the onboarding study." |
Handle incentives
After a completed interview, the agent prepares the participant payout and surfaces it for approval. This means no manual queue to work through.
The Rally Agent can:
Prepare incentive sends automatically after interviews are completed
Surface pending incentive decisions for one-tap approval
What you want to do | Example prompt |
|---|---|
Approve pending incentives | "Approve incentive sends for yesterday's interviews." |
Close a study
When a study hits its participant target, the agent detects it and surfaces the wrap-up for your sign-off before recruitment ends.
The Rally Agent can:
Detect when a quota is met and propose closing the study
Surface the close decision for your review and approval
What you want to do | Example prompt |
|---|---|
Approve closing a study | "Approve closing the cookware study." |
Where Rally Agent works
The Rally Agent is designed to be available across the tools your team already uses, including:
Rally - Chat with the agent and manage approvals from the main chat interface
Slack - Message @Rally in any Slack channel to perform tasks such as approving decisions and getting study updates
If the Rally Agent hasn't been added to the Slack channel yet, you will be prompted to add it automatically
MCP - Access agent capabilities from Claude or any other MCP-compatible environment
Email - Receive decisions and notifications so nothing slips when you're away from your tools
Automations
Automation configurations let your team define which agent behaviors are enabled for studies built from a given template and how those behaviors work. Automations are set up once at the template level and apply automatically to every study created from that template.
Automation configurations are managed under Templates > Automation. Each configuration has a name and a set of toggles for the three available automations. You can create multiple configurations for different teams or study types.
Available Automations
Three automations are available:
Incentive after interview — send incentives within a certain timeframe after an interview is completed unless participant is marked as a no-show.
You can configure the decision window (the number of hours before an undecided payout expires).
Outreach — create outreach campaigns (screener invite and scheduler invite) for approval that will then send these emails in batches until the study limit is reached.
Close study — the agent closes the study once all interviews are completed and incentives, if applicable, have been sent.
Automation template access
Each automation template has a Permissions tab that controls which teams can use it. There are two options for setting access:
Entire workspace has access — the configuration is available to all teams and can be applied to any study template.
Only specific teams have access — the configuration is only available to the teams you select.
Because study templates are assigned to specific teams, the automation configuration must have access granted to the same team as the study template in order to be applied to it.
Assign an automation to a study template
Once an automation template is created, you can attach it to a study template. When a study is created from that template, the automation configuration is applied automatically.
To attach a configuration to a study template:
Open the study template you want to update.
In the template editor, go to the Automation step.
Select the configuration to apply.
The automation settings will display as read-only, showing what's been enabled by the configuration.
The automation step in a study template shows what a configuration does, the individual toggles are not editable from the template. To change the settings, update the configuration directly under Templates > Automation.
Security and privacy
Permission-bound access
The Rally Agent operates entirely within the permission boundaries of the authenticated Rally user. It does not have, and cannot obtain, access to any data that the user itself cannot access through the Rally platform directly. If a piece of data is restricted from your Rally account, it is equally restricted when accessed through the Rally Agent.
FAQs
Can the agent work with external panel recruitment?
Currently, external panel recruitment is not available when creating a study via the Rally Agent.
Can the agent create a study without a template?
Not currently. The Rally Agent creates studies from your organization's existing templates only. If you don't see the right template, ask a workspace admin to create one before starting.
