Enable team members to quickly build new studies with best practices using pre-made templates.

This article provides instructions for customers using Rally for Teams (Rally V2). Your Rally admin will let you know when it's time to switch to Rally for Teams.

Build study templates from scratch or convert existing studies with proven success into templates to ensure best practices are easily replicated across your team.

  • Create new study templates from scratch

  • Create templates from existing studies

  • Duplicate study templates to iterate


🚨 Creating and managing Study Templates requires the "Create and modify study templates" and "View study templates" permissions. This includes the Rally default roles Admin, Ops Manager, or Researcher.

Team membership determines which Study Templates users have access to, as well as the access set on the template, such as workspace-wide or team specific.

Find study templates under Templates in the left navigation bar of Rally for Teams.

  • Access Study Templates at the Workspace level to view all across the workspace, or from the Team level to view only those available to a specific team.

Create Study Templates from Existing Studies

  1. Navigate to Studies to create a new study template an existing Study.

  2. Locate the correct study and hover next to the name to see the action menu.

  3. Select the 3 dots ... and select Create template from study.

  4. Input core study creation details:

    • Template Name: Enter a descriptive name for easy identification by your team.

    • Access: Set the access permission to determine who it will be available to. (This setting determines who can view the template, but each user's specific role permissions will determine whether they can create studies from it.)

      • Entire workspace has access

      • Only specific teams have access

        • Team: If only specific a team will have access, select it here.

  5. Select Create template to continue and begin editing.

  6. Configure each section of the study builder to customize the template as needed.

    • Templates are free form - pre-fill as many study details as you like, while flexibly leaving fields blank that you'll allow those using the study template to determine.

  7. Select Create Template to save in the final Review step, changing the template's status to Active and making it available for use!

    • Or, keep the template in a Draft status to finish editing later by selecting Save & Exit.

Create New Study Templates from Scratch

  1. Navigate to Templates > Studies to create a new study template from scratch.

    • Access Study Templates at the Workspace level to view all across the workspace, or from the Team level to view only those available to a specific team.

  2. Select + New in the top right corner to begin.

  3. Input core study creation details:

    • Template Name: Enter a descriptive name for easy identification by your team.

    • Description: Tell others what this template is for to improve usability, add any important instructions or notes about the template.

    • Recruitment: Select your recruitment type - this step is crucial!

      • Select In-house for recruiting participants from your own database.

      • Select External Panel to recruit external participants with incentives and recruitment fees per participant required.

    • Access: Set the access permission to determine who it will be available to. (This setting determines who can view the template, but each user's specific role permissions will determine whether they can create studies from it.)

      • Entire workspace has access

      • Only specific teams have access

        • Teams: If only specific teams have access, set those teams now.

    • Type: Select which study type you'll be building.

      • Interviews

      • Group Interviews

      • Survey

      • Unmoderated Test

  4. Select Create template to continue and begin editing.

  5. Configure each section of the study builder to customize the template as needed.

    • Templates are free form - pre-fill as many study details as you like, while flexibly leaving fields blank that you'll allow those using the study template to determine.

  6. Select Create Template to save in the final Review step, changing the template's status to Active and making it available for use!

    • Or, keep the template in a Draft status to finish editing later by selecting Save & Exit.
