Marvin
Last updated: September 17, 2026
Keep your Marvin research enriched with your most current participant data with Rally's Marvin integration, which automatically syncs participant data from Rally into Marvin every 24 hours.
By mapping the participant properties your team needs (like email, name, and opt-out status), Marvin insights stay up to date with the latest data from Rally.
How does the Marvin integration work?
Rally connects to Marvin using an API token from your Marvin account. After connecting, you can create property mappings between Rally properties and Marvin fields.
Once your Marvin account has been connected and the integration has been configured, Rally will automatically sync participant data from Rally into Marvin every 24 hours. You can pause the automatic syncs or delete the connection at any time by going to Integrations within your workspace settings and clicking Manage.
When syncing, Rally uses the participant's email address as the identifier to match records in Marvin.
The Marvin integration only syncs participant properties, like email, name, and opt-out status. It does not sync interview transcripts or recordings. If you want a Rally recording or transcript in Marvin, you'll need to download it from Observer Rooms and upload it manually.
Required user permissions
Before setting up the Marvin integration, make sure you have the correct Rally user permissions.
Managing this requires the "Modify data integration settings" permission, which is included by default in the Admin, Ops Manager, and Developer/IT roles.
Setting up the Marvin integration
Step 1. Connect Marvin to Rally
In Rally, navigate to Settings > Integrations.
To the right of Marvin, select Connect.
Enter your Marvin API token (provided in Marvin).
Select Verify and Save to confirm the connection.
Select Continue.
Step 2. Configure export filter
Review and configure the export filter (enabled by default), which controls which participants sync.
The connection is created with a default filter of INVITED_TO_STUDY > 0 — only people invited to at least one study sync by default, not all participant data.
Uncheck the filter to sync all participants.
Step 3. Map properties between Marvin and Rally
Once connected, map Rally properties to Marvin fields, such as:
Email (used as the identifier field)
Name (map to First Name or Person [Full Name] in Rally)
Opted Out (sync opt-out preferences from Rally to Marvin)
After mapping the necessary fields, click Save and Exit.
Managing the Marvin integration
Managing this requires the "Modify data integration settings" permission, which is included by default in the Admin, Ops Manager, and Developer/IT roles.
In Rally, navigate to Settings > Integrations.
To the right of Marvin, select Manage.
Add, update, or remove property mappings as needed.
Sync history
The sync history logs past syncs, including any updates made during each sync.
Delete connection
Delete Connection will disconnect Rally and Marvin, prevent any more syncs from occurring, and remove all property mapping configurations.
